A Blue Bird and Her Little Tree

in Books &middot August 27, 2024

As we sit just between the summer and autumn seasons, our cherry blossom tree is starting to show a little tinge of yellow, and our summer flowers are becoming laden with seeds. In a couple of weeks the birds will begin their winter migration. A Blue Bird and Her Little Tree shows the beauty of the seasons.

A Blue Bird and Her Little Tree, written by award-winning author, Jin Bo. It’s a book that is bilingual for those who speak English and/or Chinese with dual-language text. The full-page illustrations have been beautifully drawn by Zhao Guangyu, using a watercolour feel.

The story is about a little bluebird, who planted seed on a barren hill. It returned the following season to see that the little seed had become a tree. The tree was worried that the blue bird wouldn’t recognise it in it’s new blooms.

When the tree lost its flowers, and then when it lost its leaves, the little tree thought the blue bird wouldn’t like it anymore, but that was not the case.

The blue bird kept coming back every season to the tree, strengthening their bond as they got to see each other grow and change through the season, just as human relationships change and grow through the years.

Kallista’s Review

I personally think this book would be a great book to help teach your kids how to speak Chinese, because the Chinese characters is either below or above the English text, so you can easily see what each word looks like.
