This free printable apple counting game is a fun way to work on number recognition, counting, subitising and some bonus colour matching too!

This is a great apple counting activity for preschoolers who will love rolling the dice and counting out the apples to add to the tree. Almost everything you need to play these apple counting games is included in this free printable pack. Once you’ve printed the game mats, cut out the apples, grab a dice or a spinner and you are ready to play!

You can use the page of apples to add to the apple tree, just print the page and cut out each one. Or you could use some small manipulatives such as mini apple erasers, red, yellow, and green bingo chips, or pom poms, as apples, and work on some fine motor skills while you play the game.

To make the color dice simple print and cut out the dice, fold along the lines and use a little glue or tape to attach the tabs.

To use the printable color spinner, put a paper clip over the centre of the spinner and pot the tip of a pencil into the paper clip, holding it in place so you can spin it. Or use a transparent spinner mat over the top of the printed spinner.

Begin by choosing which apple tree mat is best for your child – the counting mat, or the addition mat.

Apple Counting Game

The apple roll and count game is perfect for preschoolers and kids who are working on number recognition, and counting.

To play the apple counting game, roll the dice to find out how many apples to add to add to the tree, then count out the apples and put them on the tree.

For an extra challenge use colour dice or spinner after you roll the number to find out which colour of apple you should put on the tree.

Apple Addition Game

Older kids who are ready to try simple addition, the apple addition game is great fun.

To play the apple addition game you’ll need two dice. Roll both dice and put one in each circle to make an addition sum. Then put the number of apples shown on each dice onto the tree, and then count all the apples together to get the answer. Or you can encourage your child to count the dots on the dice to get the answer and put the total number of apples on the hive.

For an extra challenge use the colour dice or spinner after you roll each number to find out how many of each colour apple to put on the tree to make up the sum.

There is a space to write the sum and the answer if you wish. You may like to laminate this apple tree addition game mat and use a dry erase marker so you can use it over and over.

Free Printable Apple Counting Game

This printable apple math game includes two differentiated apple counting worksheets – one for counting and one for simple addition. There is also a page of apples to print to use as manipulatives, plus a page with a printable color spinner and printable color dice.

This printable is an A4 sized pdf file, you will need a pdf reader such as adobe acrobat to open it. It will fit to print on US ‘letter sized’ paper, just be sure to select ‘fit’ or ‘shrink to fit’ from your printer options to allow for printer margins.
