From sampling cactus ice cream to snorkeling through vibrant coral reefs, each day brought a new adventure. Here’s a day-by-day account of our memorable adventure!
Day 1: Arrival and Penghu’s Charm
This little minsu gem instantly felt like home – imagine private balconies with ocean views, a lush garden, and interiors that capture the island’s coastal charm.
Yurong B&B was the perfect cozy base for our Penghu adventure for the next 4 nights.
Oh, and I just have to give credit to Lijie, the lady boss of Yurong B&B for whipping up FOUR different types of breakfast while we were there. Seriously, we are still missing her fabulous cooking until now!
After settling in, our hosts whisked us off for a tasty lunch and a stroll through Magong’s Central Old Street, a vibrant area full of traditional buildings and local shops.
We wandered into the Penghu Tianhou Temple (Taiwan’s oldest Mazu temple) and discovered the charm of Sih Yan Jing, an ancient well with four separate openings.
And, of course, we had to try Penghu’s famous cactus ice cream – a bright pink treat with a surprisingly delicious tang!
It was magical – the ocean breeze, live music, with the stunning Xiying Rainbow Bridge as the backdrop. Awesome festive vibes FTW!
Day 2: Exploring North Penghu with Penghu Fun & Easy Shuttle Service
Our first stop was the legendary Tongliang Ancient Banyan, where a 300-year-old tree twists and turns like something out of a storybook.
Next up, we visited the Three Immortals Pagoda, with sweeping views of the turquoise coastline…
…and then marveled at the impressive Daguoyeh Basalt Columns, an incredible natural rock formation.
The highlight was the Penghu Erkan Ancient Residences – a centuries-old village with beautifully preserved architecture.
Here, we tried cactus beer and the smoothest beancurd ever!
Lunch was at a small village near Xiaomen Whale Cave, where we indulged in fresh sea urchin sashimi.
At the Whale Cave, we saw an iconic rock formation shaped like a whale.
Finally, we crossed the scenic almost 2.5km-long Penghu Great Bridge on our way back.
And it was our first time too! Armed with fishing rods and a bit of luck, we set out under the stars. I even managed to catch two squids (the ultimate bragging rights!).
Day 3: Snorkeling Paradise at South Islands National Park
We spent the morning at Starfish Bay and Lavender Forest, where underwater fields of purple coral stretched as far as we could see.
At the Nemo Coral Garden, we swam among schools of colorful fish in a place that felt like an underwater dream.
Lunch was a local feast of lobster noodles in a cozy village on the island.
I’m not sure how they do it, but the seafood was super fresh and the broth was totally delish. The kids went for second helpings!
Fueled up, we were ready for more water adventures.
We spent the afternoon paddleboarding, sliding down water slides, and snorkeling. Watching the sun set from our boat was the perfect end to a day on the water.
For just S$20 per person, we had everything from grilled beef, prawns, squid to juicy oysters. Everyone left feeling more than OK – because we were just too full and happy! 😂
Day 4: A Day Out on Qimei Island, Complete with Canoes and IG-worthy Sights
Next, we hopped on a tour bus to see some of Qimei’s best-known attractions: the Tomb of Seven Beauties, a poignant historical site; the dramatic Big Lion Scenic Area; and Little Taiwan, a rock formation shaped exactly like a miniature Taiwan!
But the most famous spot on Qimei has to be the Double Heart Stone Weir. These two intertwined stone hearts set in the ocean are stunningly romantic and one of Penghu’s most-photographed sights.
Our evening meal was at One Piece Pirate Village, a whimsical restaurant with a pirate theme and mouthwatering Taiwanese seafood specialties.
Loved the food and the laidback vibes!
Day 5: A Final Boat Tour with a Farewell Oyster Feast
As if that weren’t exciting enough, we spotted two giant sea turtles gliding gracefully through the water.
The tour ended with an all-you-can-eat oyster grill, which we dug into with gusto.
With juicy, fresh oysters cooked to perfection, it was the best farewell meal we could ask for.
This is not Goodbye, Penghu
From unforgettable sunsets to delicious food and countless adventures, Penghu delivered more than we could have hoped for.
From friendly locals to stunning seascapes, delicious seafood, and endless family-friendly activities, Penghu left us with incredible memories. Each day brought new surprises, and we loved every moment of discovering this unique island paradise together as a family.
