After 4 months, now that your baby is growing rapidly and has moved past the newborn stage, it’s important to note some significant milestones for 5 month old baby.
TCT has compiled a list of development milestones for your 5 month old baby
1. Motor skills
Your baby can now sit upright for longer periods. However, sitting and head movement may still be unsteady, so remember to provide head support. Additionally, their grasp is strengthening day by day. They can pull objects closer and may even be able to transfer them from one hand to another.
2. Communication skills
Your five-month-old baby is ready to start babbling now, and those babbles might even resemble real words. The simplest ones consist of a mix of consonant and vowel sounds, like “ba-ba.” Another common combination often heard around this age is “da-da.” Additionally, they are beginning to respond to stimuli, such as turning their head at the sound of their name.
3. Vision
Vision has improved, but it’s not yet perfect (there’s still some time before reaching a 20/20 vision). What about colors and contrasts? Well, your baby’s color perception has sharpened to the extent that they can distinguish between two shades of the same color. However, babies at this stage are particularly drawn to bright, solid colors like vibrant red, blue, yellow, and green. So, consider giving your little one some brightly colored toys, rattles, or blocks.
Disclaimer: Each baby is different from the other in terms of developmental mileposts. Don’t panic if your baby hasn’t shown all of the above five-month-markers. However, do speak to your pediatrician if he/she hasn’t achieved even one of the indicators.
