Supplies Needed
Here are the simple supplies you’ll need for this Halloween art activity.
- White Cardstock
- Craft tray or pan (we get our metal pans at the Dollar Store)
- Squeegees
- Pumpkin printable to trace
- Q-tips
- Scissors (for the grown up)
- Washable Paint
Prep Ahead
Here are a few things you’ll want to prep ahead for young kids. Older kids can cut these on their own.
- Use the pumpkin printable and trace it onto white cardstock to cut out a pumpkin for each child.
- Put washable paint into containers or a muffin tin.
How to set up this Halloween Art activity
- Lay out paper pumpkins on a craft tray or pan with Q-tips and washable paint.
- Keep a squeegee nearby!
How to make this Halloween Art Activity
- Encourage kids to add paint to the paper pumpkins using the Q-tips.
- Explain that they want to use a good amount of paint so that they have little globs of paint on their pumpkin.
- Show kids how to use the squeegee to scrape the paint on the pumpkin to create designs.
- Repeat this again and again with different paper pumpkins!
- This is a process art activity, so the goal is for kids to explore the art process and experiment! Let them try painting and using the squeegees different ways to see what they come up with!
- Once they’re done decorating their pumpkin, hang it to dry! You can use their art for decorations or even to make a Halloween pumpkin banner.
