Brooklyn Bridge Park is offering a really cool volunteer ecological stewardship program by application & interview only. It is perfect for kids (14-18) who are interested in environmental studies. It would probably be a great resume builder for college as well. Participants work on community service projects in ecology with other teens from across the city.The program is called TIDES (Teens Interested In and Dedicated to Environmental Stewardship) and takes place on the waterfront.Teens will work on the following project types:Green Team: Gardening projects with the horticulture staffCoastal Clean-Up: Cleaning up the marshes and beachesSeining: Humanely collecting animals to record environmental dataOyster Monitoring: Participating in the Billion Oyster Project at the Oyster research stationsRod and Reel Fishing: Do environmental monitoring while learning line fishing techniquesCommunity Science and Sustainable Landscapes: Work on maintaining the sustainable park features while collection important dataThe program runs in the park at 4pm-6pm on weekdays, so you have to have a plan to get to the park on time after school.
