Almost everything you need to play these Christmas tree counting games is included in the free printable. Once you’ve printed the game mats, cut out the decorations, grab a dice or a spinner and you are ready to play!

You can use the included decorations to add to the tree and cover the numbers, simply cut around each one and they fit perfectly on the trees. Or grab some small manipulatives such as pom poms or mini erasers to use as your Christmas tree decorations, and work on some fine motor skills while you play the game.

How to Play the Christmas Tree Counting Game.

Begin by chosing which Christmas tree counting mat is best for your child.

The Empty Christmas Tree Counting Game

The empty tree is perfect for young children who are working on counting. Roll the dice to find out how many decorations to add to add to your Christmas tree, then count out the decorations and pop them on the tree. How many decorations are on your tree?

Challenge old kids by using two dice with this tree. Roll the dice and dd the two numbers together to find out how many decorations to put on the tree.

The Numbered Christmas Tree Roll and Cover Game

The number tree is great for kids who are working on number recognition. Roll the dice then find the same number on the tree and cover it with one of the deocrations.

You could also print more than one copy of this tree and play a group game. Take it in turns to roll the dice and cover a number on your tree, if you roll a number that you have already cover all of you skip a turn. The first person to cover all the numbers on their tree wins!

The Dotted Christmas Tree Roll and Cover Game.

The dot tree is good for kids who are working on subitising and counting. Roll the dice then find the matching number of dots on the tree to cover with a decoration. Kids start by counting the dots on the dice and counting the dots in the circles to find the match, eventually they will be able to ‘subitise’ and recognise the number of dots on the dice and in the circles without needing to count them.

The dot tree can also be played like a bingo game with more than one player, just print as many copies of the tree mat as you need and some extra decorations!

This printable Christmas tree maths game includes three differentiated tree mats, plus a page of Christmas decorations to use as manipulatives.

This printable is an A4 sized pdf file, you will need a pdf reader such as adobe acrobat to open it. It will fit to print on US ‘letter sized’ paper, just be sure to select ‘fit’ or ‘shrink to fit’ from your printer options to allow for printer margins.
