Halloween Party Ideas for the Classroom

You’ve been put in charge of the class Halloween party at school and now you’re thinking… what do I do?

Don’t worry, I’ve got a plan for you! Check out these Halloween Party ideas that we love!

How do you run a kids Halloween party at school?

As a Room Mom or Parent Volunteer over the last decade, in every grade from TK and kindergarten onward, I’ve organized and helped out at a lot of class Halloween parties.

Here’s the basic Halloween party structure that I’ve seen repeated successfully each year!

  1. Meet with the classroom teacher to discuss what he/she wants to happen on Halloween. Find out the amount of time you have for the class party and what is allowed/not allowed.
  2. Create a Halloween Party plan with FOUR stations. See below. Get your ideas approved by the teacher.
  3. Have the classroom teacher divide the class into four groups that will work well together ahead of the Halloween party.
  4. Make a Volunteer Sign Up a few weeks ahead of time to get a Parent Helper for each party station and get party supply donations.
  5. Have parents send supplies to school a day or two ahead of the party so you can confirm you have everything before Halloween.
  6. Set up the party stations on Halloween.
  7. Have each group start at a Halloween station and rotate to a different station every 15 minutes (or more/less depending on how long your party is).
  8. Have so much fun! Don’t forget to snap some photos.

What are the best Halloween Party Stations?

For class parties I love to set up four activity stations. Halloween parties are much easier when kids are in small groups versus all doing the same thing at the same time.

Here are the four Halloween party stations I typically set up:

  1. Halloween Arts & Crafts
  2. Halloween Games
  3. Halloween Bingo
  4. Halloween Snack

Halloween Party Ideas

To help you easily plan a class party, I’m going to give you a few Halloween party ideas that you could try at each of these stations.

Halloween Arts & Crafts

For a Class Halloween party I always try and keep the arts & crafts low prep and low mess. Why? Sometimes kids are wearing their Halloween costumes and I want to make sure they get home without paint or anything icky on them.

Paper Bag Spooky Houses

This is one of my favorite activities to recommend for a Halloween arts & crafts station. It’s pretty low mess and doesn’t require too much prep ahead.

Decorate the Pumpkins

Trace pumpkins onto one big piece of paper or give kids each their own paper with some pumpkins on them. Use stickers, markers, etc.

Make Halloween Straw Rockets

Have kids draw Halloween pictures and then make these straw rockets shared by Buggy & Buddy. Kids can take them outside and launch them!

Make a Monster Bag

Give kids a paper lunch sack or grocery bag, markers, googly eyes, and stickers and have them turn their bag into a Monster!

Try a Pre-Made Halloween Craft

Oriental Trading and Amazon have a lot of simple Halloween Crafts that are pre-made. All you have to do is follow the instructions. I usually pick 2 of these for a station since sometimes kids blow through them quickly.

Here are a few ideas:

Make Playdough Monsters

This is a sensory play activity plus an art activity! Encourage kids to use playdough to make monsters. Give them google eyes, pipe cleaners, and other embellishments.

Halloween Game Station

At a Halloween game station I usually try and have a few games for kids to roam around and try. They typically get to play them a few times. I usually have some candy or prizes that they can earn as they play these games. Here are a few favorite Halloween game stations.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt

Hang the hunt cards around in easy and hard places and send kids off on a Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Click on the button below for the free printable cards.

Monster Golf

Make a Monster with a big mouth and stick it to a box. Cut a hole for his mouth. Use kid friendly golf clubs to hit the golf balls into the monster’s mouth. Check out more fun games using the link below.

Try a Candy Walk

Play music while kids walk around on top of the cards. When the music stops, call out a card. Whoever is on that card, gets candy! Repeat. Download this game and more in my Halloween Party Plan ebook using the link below.

Halloween Bingo Station

Halloween Bingo is one of our “go to” activities every year. Kids enjoy playing and you can get harder Bingo cards each year to make it more engaging for the older kids.

You can download my Halloween Bingo cards below or check Pinterest or Etsy for more detailed ones.

Halloween Bingo

Halloween Bingo is low prep and easy to set up! Just grab some candy corn and pass out a cup or small bag to each child. Click on the button below for my free printable Halloween Bingo cards.

Halloween Snack Station

Typically snacks need to be prepackaged at most schools and allergy friendly. This makes having a Halloween snack station tricky, but not impossible. Make sure to work with your teacher and school to follow all allergy guidelines and school rules with regards to snacks.

The purpose of a Halloween snack station is to give kids a chance to sit down, chat with friends, and fuel during a busy party! Here are some snack ideas we’ve done in the past depending on the rules in the classroom.

Ghost Cheese Sticks

Draw eyes on the outside packaging of mozzarella cheese sticks with Sharpies so they look like ghosts. Kids can eat these and get a little protein in a sugar packed day. Check out more party snack ideas using the link below.

Halloween Pretzels

These are fun Halloween shaped pretzels!

Decorate Halloween Cookies

You can often order Halloween cookie kits from local grocery stories or bakeries. Kids can decorate the cookies and eat them at the snack station. If you don’t have a local baker who can make these, the cookie kit below is one we’ve used before!

Halloween Popcorn Hands

We’ve made these at several class parties before and they were a hit! Buy everything pre-packaged and then give kids the materials to build their own.
